What Do I Do About Investigating Pronouns?

What do you do if you have an investigation about pronoun use? So I’m recording this in July of 2021 and I hope very much that this is the recording that becomes out of date the quickest. So, if you’re doing an investigation about pronouns, you should do some research about the use of different pronouns if you are not very familiar with more than the binary he/she. But the other thing that I can tell you in July of 2021, is that a lot of investigators are not up to speed on the respectful use of pronoun issues. And so if you are engaging with someone with different pronouns, you can ask them things like, “Tell me the significance of this thing you keep repeating or tell me why this is important to you. Tell me how the other person would know that this is important to you. Tell me what you’re perceiving by them misusing your pronouns?” Things like that. But at the end of the day, pronoun use is probably one of the protected issues under either the gender or the sex protections that we have, and so the use of different pronouns is probably protected. And that being said, I imagine my clientele, and hopefully, all companies, are being sensitive to employees being troubled by the misuse of pronouns within their organization.
