Why You Should Encourage Your Employees to Vote

You know a thriving workforce is essential to the success of your business. What you might not realize is how much your employees’ engagement in the democratic process can impact your company’s well-being.

Why do we say that? What benefits can you gain from your workforce voting?

  • Foster a Positive Company Culture. Employees who feel empowered and connected to their community often have higher morale and job satisfaction.
  • Attract and Retain Top Talent. A company that values civic engagement is more appealing to potential employees.
  • Influence Public Policy. Voting allows your employees to have a say in policies that directly affect your business.
  • Signal That You Respect Their Opinions. If you trust your employees to vote and to have an opinion – even if it differs from management – it indicates you recognize them as thoughtful, independent actors whose opinions are important.

You do have certain obligations as an employer.  But you can still encourage your employees to vote. Here’s how:

 

  • Provide Flexible Time Off. Allow employees to take time off to vote or serve as poll workers.
  • Educate Your Staff. Share information about voting places and times.
  • Offer Voter Registration Assistance. Unfortunately, it’s too late in Texas. Voters here had to register by October 7 this year. But Coloradans have until October 28 by mail and through Election Day in person. And Wyoming also offers same-day registration at polling places on Election Day. As an employer, you can help employees register to vote by providing resources or assistance. Even if you’re past the deadline for this election, getting them registered for next time is still a win.

Please make a plan to vote outside of work time this year! It is paramount to the sucess of our nation, the economy that supports our company, you, and your family that we all make our voices heard at the polls. 

This workplace must remain politics-free zone but, outside of work, there is nothing more important than letting your voice be heard!
